In 2019, after decades working in the live Television Industry, I found myself faced with a choice.  I could continue to hold on in an industry that was doing it's best to phase me out (hello, automated control rooms!), or I could put my energy towards something different. Total Access Media is the result!  I went back to school, learned about accessible media and set about educating my colleagues about the importance of high quality captioning and audio description.

It's become a passion project. I  I  believe that we can do better when it comes to accessible audio/ video and film production in Canada.

My Story

It's a simple concept.  Having worked on thousands of hours of live TV, I know that the best results are always a team effort.

Yet, when it comes to the accessibility of our productions, the approach is different.

We leave accessibility to the post production stage. â€‹We outsource to a 3rd party for captioning and audio description.  Often those are 2 different companies with no coordination or communication between the two.  â€‹

The result?  Inconsistent quality,  inaccurate descriptions and guesswork on the part of the accessibility service provider.  If you watch everything with captions on (as many of us do these days), you will still notice this lack of quality on many shows - often inconsistencies between episodes of the same show!

Let's do it differently.

Why "Total Access"?
